ESPNU Lacrosse Coverage and other ESPN news

Did anyone see Quint Company at Homewood on Sunday?

I have heard from two different sources that the ESPN U announcers are not attending the games, but “announcing” from tv screens in a studio?

Would any other sport stand for this? It might actually be easier to cover bowling, baseball, or women’s softball from a studio, but would the teams, http://www.cheapjerseys11.com/ coaches, and audience go along with the pretence?

I know Quint sometimes reads this forum, so I would love for him to comment.

I may have missed him but I’m pretty sure Carc was not on the sideline for this one. Think it was just Eamon and Quint.

No idea if they were at Homewood or in a studio in Bristol. Couldn’t really tell. I guess that’s a good thing. If you can’t tell, does it really matter? Do they need to be there?

I’m sure they’ll be at the actual games once the playoffs come around, but cheap jerseys for early February March games, I can’t really blame them.

Well, yeah. Lots of things happen in the press box. And lots of great reasons for being there.

You get stats directly from Ernie at the end of each quarter, printed out, IIRC. Plus, there is FREE FOOD up there.

And prior to and after the game, you can interview folks so you have done your homework for the game and for future games.

This is just being cheap. The state of sportsjournalism is not pretty. Reasonably sure it was Eamon Mc. complaining that he could not hear anything and voicing his displeasure with the situation. Quint soldiered on and someone must have alerted Eamon that he was still “hot mike.”

Best lacrosse announcing I’ve heard this season, in albeit a limited number of games, were the efforts of the two Boston U. announcers during the Terriers Midshipmen game. Worst lacrosse announcing by several quanta was the Syracuse Mutt and Jeff who announced the Orange Cadets game on ESPN3. The mute button was a godsend.

Your last sentence is the reason it has been reported that ESPN management has to cut $250 MILLION+ from the expense side over the next two years. Cost cutting of this magnitude gets you remote announcers watching games just like you do and not just in lacrosse either.

I suspect Eamon’s comment on air might not necessarily have been linked to being remote and more likely the result of his simply not muting his mike before talking to the control room.
